Aaron Boone gets ejected by Hunter Wendelstedt during Oakland Athletics game 2024Summary:

  • New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has been once again tossed from an MLB game.
  • This marked his 35th ejection since he was appointed manager in 2018..
  • Sunday’s ejection during the 2-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics appears to have been caused by a mistaken identity mixup..

Ever since he started to manage the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone has been subject to no less than 35 expulsions from MLB games.

The latest toss was on Monday during the game against the Oakland Athletics which his team lost (2-0).

Just five pitches in, Boone was thrown out by home-plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt over a remark that the Yankees claim was actually yelled by a fan sitting behind the dugout.

The umpire had a different say, resulting in Boone’s expulsion.

“I Couldn’t Believe It”

After he explained to Boone that he was on his final warning after a disagreement over a hit-by-pitch call, clearly warning him that he would be ejected provided he would say another word, Wendelstedt proceeded to put his warning into practice and throw Boone out.

As the home-plate umpire explained, he made the decision because he heard a shout directed towards him, from what he believed to be the far end of the Yankees’ bench.

According to the Yankees, the remark was made by a fan who was sitting in the stands and not Boone himself.

The manager described the incident as “embarrassing”, adding that he “couldn’t believe it” and explaining that he “really didn’t even go after Hunter” and that the appeal made him more upset.

Boone explained that it was “hard” to understand the decision, adding that he plans to reach out to MLB regarding the situation.

“I Don’t Care Who Said It. You’re Gone!”

When he tried to plead his case to Wendelstedt and tell him he “did not say a word” and explaining the remark was made by someone above the dugout, the umpire replied “I don’t care who said it. You’re gone!

Footage from YES Network showed a fan sitting behind Boone yelling something at the umpire, who as a result turned around and tossed Boone out of the game.

The incident marked Boone’s second ejection during the current season after his expulsion from a Miami Marlins game earlier in the month.
