Sports Betting

Sports betting is the world’s favorite hobby. It’s one of the safest ways to participate in the exciting world of gambling so far, as most places let you bet with literally any spare change you have in your pocket.

Sports betting is a fun hobby, and it’s enjoyed by quite a lot of people worldwide. It’s a thrilling hobby that accounts for a hefty margin of the worldwide gambling profit. It’s the most popular option during big seasons – the Premier League, UEFA, or in our case, the NFL.

I’ve had a couple of stints with sports betting, and they have all been pretty fun. It’s been embraced by the world as a safe way to gamble, so it’s no longer illegal. In some places, such as Australia, it’s regulated heavily, though.

If you are looking to take part in sports betting and you are in Australia, you’ll have a tough time. Live betting is banned there for some odd reason, yet it’s the most popular type of sports betting in the rest of the world.

We don’t have that problem here in the good old USA. We can bet on anything, and have been betting on everything and anything we could get our hands-on.

Betting is the practice of placing a wager on something you think will occur, within or outside of a sports match. If your assumption is correct and your wager goes through, you’re entitled to some nice financial compensation for your psychic abilities. The game is mostly about luck, but there is some skill involved as well.

If you know the ins and outs of the sport you are betting on, you are bound to have an advantage amongst your competition. The only way a casino can make any money is if you lose some money.

This shouldn’t be permitted, and you should do everything in your power to win as much as you possibly can. To stack the odds in your favor, you need to remember a few golden rules.

The Ins and Outs of American Football

Perhaps you aren’t the biggest fan of American football, perhaps you’ve never encountered the sport before. Say you would like to get into the sport and perhaps make a little money betting on it.

This is the section you should be following. In this section of the article, I’ll be discussing some insight into the sport itself. Remember, knowledge is power!

American football is a sport that is played worldwide. It’s a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a field. The main point of the game is to score as many goals as humanly possible.

The team that scores the most goals is the winning team. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. There is a lot more to it than this broad definition.

Even if the main point of the game is to score as many goals as possible, this is achieved through three different types of players. They all have their own lingo, which I will take you through as well.

Offensive Unit

The offensive unit is a team of people who are there to score the goals. They have a formation that is offensive in nature, with the main goal of attacking the other team and scoring.

The teams themselves are interchangeable, so one person from the defensive team can move to the special or offensive at times, but they are only changed if the numbers are low.

The teams themselves are divided by a part of a field that is known as the neutral zone. Neither team is allowed to step on the neutral zone until the ball is snapped, excluding the center players.

The Offensive positions that the players can take are the:

Quarterback QB

The quarterback is the shot caller in the offensive team and is located right behind the offensive line. A Quarterback is the leader of the offense and is almost always the one to throw a forward pass.

Halfback HB

The halfback is the main carriers of the ball during the rushing play and is located in the backfield. If a halfback is placed behind another halfback to provide a linked chain, the position is referred to as a Tailback.

Fullback FB

The fullback position is the last line of defense and is the second running back position after Halfback. The role of a fullback is blocking the enemy team’s quarterback and the other team’s running back. Fullbacks are the offense’s defense.

Defensive Unit

The defensive unit is a team portion that is there to prevent the opposing team’s offense from scoring by means of turnovers or tacking the enemy ball carrier. These are the largest guys in the game.

The defensive line is right behind the offensive line’s backline. It’s the last layer of protection against an enemy team’s possible score. This second backline consists of two types of players – Safeties and Cornerbacks.

Safeties S

Safeties are the last line of defense against the enemy team’s scorer, and their goal is primarily tackling. They are known as the biggest players on the teams, even bigger than the fullbacks.

Cornerbacks CB

The goal of the cornerback is to protect the corners of the field where the opposing scorer might try to go through. Their goal is defending the part of the field, and in the best-case scenario, deflect forward passes, make tackles, and establish turnovers.

Special Unit

The special unit of the American Football Teams are responsible for all the kicking plays in the game. The special teams consist of placekickers, holders, and long snappers.

The job of a long snapper is to snap the football to the holder, who will position it for the placekicker to kick it. There’s no holder on kickoffs though since the ball is kicked off from a tee, like in golf!

The main goal of the special unit is not to be built like tanks – they are picked for their speed and agility.

American Football Betting Types

Rules and regulations have always been extremely confusing. There are billions of sports, and most of them are similar but different enough to be confusing.

In this section, we’re going to get into something a little bit more familiar to us. Gambling is our passion, and gaming is our game! Here, we’ll be discussing the types of bets you can place on your games of American or Canadian football.

Remember, these are the only types of bets you can place. When you’ve got the game down, you should get the bets down as well. Combine this knowledge with some of the effective strategies I’ll give you later, and you’re set for life!

Point Spread Bets

Unlike a lot of sports, on which Moneyline bets are king, point spreads actually dominate the American and Canadian football fields. That’s why I’m going to go over what point spreads are first.

Both teams that are participating in a game are generally set at -100, which means that if you’re betting 110, you’re going to be winning 100. Now, this is the optimal and general setting, and you’re allowed to make changes.

If you’re betting on the favored team, you can surrender a set amount of points, but if you bet on the less favorable team, you can get some more money.

To put it bluntly, if you are correct in the spread you’ve assumed, you’re entitled to financial compensation. If you’re betting on the less favorable team, it must win outright or lose while still remaining within the point spread you’ve set for the bet.

Point spreads rule the American and Canadain football betting industry, because of their sheer convenience.

Over/Under Bets

Over/Under bets are present in almost every team sport, and is popular everywhere.

A bookie will set a points total for the set match, and you can wager on whether the combined score of both teams will either go over the bookies’ estimate or under the bookies’ estimate.

Totals are an extremely popular wager for a good reason. They offer a simple explanation and a regular range of points. If you look back at some of the most popular matches in any sport, you’ll realize that most of them fall within the same amount of points. It’s the finesse that matters.

Moneyline bets

Moneyline bites are another popular potion in every single sport, ever. What does Moneyline betting mean? Well, let me give you an example, and you can tell me if you don’t understand something down in the comments.

The Raiders are playing the Patriots. You’ve had a vision the night before in your dream that the Raiders are going to win, for some reason. You’re right in your assumption, and you’ve placed your wager on the Raiders. Congratulations, you’re entitled to some nice money.

Moneyline bets are almost exclusively placed on the underdog, the less favored player or team. If the quote is right and you stack it with a couple of other bets, you could be a very prosperous individual at the end of everything.

Favored betters are sometimes given quotas as well, but they are small, and not really that appealing. But beware, you might get surprised sometimes. The underdog can perform, and perform he will!

Parlay Bets

Parlays might sound like a fancy option when it comes to betting types, but it is actually quite simple. A parlay bet is a wager in which two or more football sides are chosen and all must win for the wager to be paid out.

Football parlays are one of the more popular options in the betting game.

People like parlaying low scoring teams with the under, and high scoring teams with the overs to make a little more money on the bet.

This is an accessory bet if used in this way. Other people like betting big on whole teams, betting a small amount of everything, covering every basis for a small chance to win the jackpot.

Prop Bets

Props are the third most popular option when it comes to betting on American and Canadian football matches. They allow you to wager on various team and player statistics alongside outcomes and specific events that might occur in the game itself.

Common props that are mostly used in the game are betting on which team will score first, which team possession will result in a touchdown or goal, and which player might score. You get the idea.

Betters can also wager over/under on the propositional bets, betting over or under certain amounts, statistics that might occur during the game itself. This is where your research begins to shine.

If you’ve done your homework and you know all about the game and the team you’re betting on, you’re more likely to get the props right. If you do, it can be a nice addition to your profits. This is also one of the most popular accessory bets.

Teasing and Pleasing Bets

Teasers and Pleasers are another accessory type bet when it comes to betting on American and Canadain football. These are common names for parlay bets that don’t use the orthodox point spreads in their betting type.

A teaser is when a point spread moves in your favor, resulting in a lesser payout, and a pleaser is when the point spread moves in the bookie’s favor, resulting in some of that good old green in your pocket.

American Football Betting Strategies You Should Keep in Mind

Betting is the world’s favorite sport, but the only way a casino can make any profit is if you are on the losing side.

If you are honest and knowledgeable about betting, you should be fine, but you can’t garner any gambling and betting experience without enduring that dreaded trial and error period, can you?

You actually can. I’ve been betting on everything I could since my late twenties, and I experienced a lot of failures before I got the concoction right. Learn from my mistakes, take my advice, and you’re going to be the most prosperous guy in your group.

Betting on American Football is not that complicated, honest. If you simply think about what you are doing, the rest is bound to come to you completely naturally, without much effort.

Remember, I can give you some nice tips and tricks about the ins and outs when it comes to betting on American football, but you need to do your research, and find out all you can about the sport beforehand.

Knowledge is king, and the tips are the prince and princess! Let me introduce you to them.

Think For Yourself!

Think about what you’ll be doing. Before you bet on anything, remember that there is real money on the line! When you know that it’s your own real money on the line, the natural thing to do is think with your own head.

You will hear a lot of rumors when you’re at the casino about fixed games, fixed odds, things that absolutely must occur! While at some times these things may be spot on, more often than not, they’re just rumors spread by casino members. Remember, the only way a casino can make money is if you lose it.

When you’ve got this down, you need to remember the shiniest of all the golden rules – think before you bet!

Research

You need to do your research beforehand. I’ve said this numerous times in this article, and I’m going to elaborate on it right now. You need to know the ins and outs of the sport you’re betting on before you bet your cold hard cash on it.

Furthermore, if you’re up for some more complex and complicated bets, you really need to research the teams you are going to be betting on. Learn all you can about them! Injuries, season statistics, whether they have a new star on the team. Knowledge is power.

There is no shame in not knowing, there is only shame in not being willing to learn! When you’ve got the teams down, you should research the players in full detail. If you’ve done this, you’re allowed to step on the betting throne.

Keep a Cool Head

Keep a cool head when you’re betting. If Raiders are your favorite team, you’re free to love them to death if you choose to. But take my word for it, there is no faster way to start hating your favorite team than losing money on them.

Don’t bet with your heart – bet with your mind. You need to know the matchups, and you should place your odds according to the data you’ve gathered, not what you would like to see happen.

Learn to distinguish your hopes and dreams from the real world. Making a decision based on facts is always the better option than making it based on your gut feeling. While your heart might lead you to victory once or twice, facts rule.

Manage your Money

Managing your money properly is the most important step you should always take when you’re betting on anything, ever. Since betting is not a quick type of gambling like the one-armed bandit, it has a nasty habit of eating all your money slowly, without you even realizing it.

One way to manage your funds properly is by making a separate bank account for your bets. This might prove to be tricky in one way or another, but a good way to make a separate account for your hobby is making an e-wallet.

There are numerous e-wallets on the internet and most of them are accepted by all the big casinos around. If you find one that is good and proper like e-pay or PayPal, you’re likely to bring your fund manager to the next level with only 5 minutes of hassle and save yourself from financial ruin.

Get Carried Away

The most common rookie mistake you could make when it comes to any sort of sports betting, especially betting on the NFL, is getting carried away. Take a step back, take a breather, enjoy the moment, enjoy the game.

You really don’t need to be betting all your money, all at once. That is a recipe for disaster, trust me. You should take it easy – this is your hobby, after all. Sports betting should never become your main source of income, but if you play the game correctly, you’re bound to make some mean side money.

Taking a breather will allow you some wiggle room both in terms of time and financial constraints. It gives you more time to think about the matches you’re going to be betting on and will provide you with the time you need to think before you bet.

Fall For Tricks

Another common rookie mistake I’ve seen people fall into millions of times is falling for the tricks of either the games or the casinos.

I’ve said this a million times, and I’ll say it again.

Casinos are not your friends, as much as they would like you to think they are. The only way they can make any money is if you wind up losing the exact same amount.

You might be taken aback by that amazing and generous betting bonus you could be earning if you just went a little bit out of your way. When things seem to be too good to be true, they are in most cases. Don’t fall for the bonus trick.

Another trick you will experience at least once in your betting career is falling for that fixed match. That fantastic match with the great odds that the shady rich guy told you to bet on. It’s not fixed, and he’s most likely affiliated with the casino in one way or the other.

Even if, on the rare occasion, fixed matches do occur, you should always play it safe and knowledgeable. Don’t fall for this trick – it’s the oldest one in the book.

In conclusion, sports betting is a fun hobby that everyone can participate in if they have a couple of hours to do research. Research is instrumental to success. You can make some money, you just need to know how to do it.

I hope I’ve given you sufficient information to get you started in this fun hobby. It can be fun if you play it right, and after reading this article, you’re bound to get better!
