The 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence from March 26 and cricket fans will be treated to a T20 extravaganza as they will get to witness continuous action for the next 6 weeks.
The IPL Committee has decided to hold the 2022 IPL season in India but unlike usual IPL seasons, they have restricted all of the games to Mumbai and Pune.
This IPL is going to be even bigger and better as two new IPL franchises have been added to the mix. The two new teams are the Gujarat Titans who will be led by Hardik Pandya and the Lucknow Super Giants which will be captained by KL Rahul.
While most teams have a home advantage when they play each IPL season, this will not be the case for the majority of teams due to the travel restrictions in place to create a safer COVID-19 bubble.
Most of the IPL teams have a new look this season as the squads have been greatly revamped after the 2022 IPL auction in February. The Delhi Chargers, former champs Mumbai Indians and current champs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are once again the teams to watch out for this season.
In a repeat of last years final Defending champs CSK will play the opening game of the 2022 IPL against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. CSK have made a massive change as MS Dhoni who has captained the men in yellow since the inception of the IPL has made the decision to step down voluntarily and hand over the captaincy to R Jadeja just this week.
CSK were among the top three teams expected to make the IPL play-offs in 2022 but that was under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Now that Dhoni has stepped down and Jadeja has taken over, we need to see how CSK performs under their new captain.
KKR will be led by their new captain Shreyas Iyer who is looking to turn around the fortunes of the Knight Riders this season. Both CSK and KKR will be looking to get their 2022 IPL campaign started with a win!
