News broke over the weekend that YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul will fight Tommy Fury on Dec 18 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Tommy Fury is the brother of Tyson ‘the Gypsy King’ Fury who is the WBC champ who is coming off an epic win in a heavyweight clash against Deontay Wilder in October.
Tommy Fury isn’t a big name in the boxing world. His claim to fame is due to the fact that he is the brother of Tyson Fury and also because he finished as a runner-up in one of the hottest UK reality shows in 2019 ‘Love Island’. Fury started his professional boxing career in 2018 and is currently at 7-0 while Paul has a 4-0 record.
The two fighters have thrown barbs at each other on social media during the last couple of months and Jake Paul decided that it was time for them to settle their differences in the ring before Christmas. This will be the first time that Paul is fighting a professional boxer as most his previous two fights were against MMA fighters.
When Paul won his last fight against Tyron Woodley, he asked Woodley to get a tattoo with the words ‘I love Jake Paul’ if he wanted a rematch and Woodley went ahead and got one. However, Paul is not giving him an immediate rematch. Instead he has inserted a clause in the Tommy Fury contract that will require Fury to change his name if he loses to Paul. Tommy Fury will have to go under the name of “Tommy Fumbles“!

Tyson Fury congratulated his brother for signing a contract to fight Jake Paul and is expected to spend some time with his brother in the next few weeks to train him to fight Paul. Their father John Fury confirmed that the two brothers will meet up in America and Tyson will sort out any loopholes he sees in Tommy’s game.
John Fury also said that Tyson will be in Tommy’s corner during the fight and he expected his son to win in explosive fashion. Eddie Hearn who is the promoter for Tyson Fury said Tommy Fury has a tough challenge on his hand as Jake Paul can fight. Hearn said he wasn’t concerned about the name change because if Tommy loses, it would be better for him to go to a remote island and stay there!
