UFC on ESPN 24: Rodriguez vs. Waterson Betting Preview

The UFC had to scrap its scheduled Main Event between TJ Dillawshaw vs. Cory Sandhagen on May 8 as the former bantamweight champ TJ Dillawshaw suffered a cut and asked for this fight to be rescheduled.

The UFC was looking for a replacement fight for the Main Event and announced this week that Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson will be the new main event.

These two fighters usually fight in the strawweight division. However, Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson will now move to flyweight as the UFC has asked them to do 5 rounds in the Main Event. Not having to go through a brutal weight cut will help the cardio of both fighters but our experts feel that it will also give Rodriguez an edge.

Boomakers have Rodriguez as the favourite because she is a much better striker than Waterson who prefers to take her opponents down and look for a submission. This is going to be a tough night for Waterson as Rodriguez can hold her own on the ground. We don’t expect this fight to go the distance and expect Rodriguez to win by TKO.

UFC fans were looking forward to see veterans Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone fight Diego Sanchez. The two had some bad blood between them and it was also going to be the last fight for Diego Sanchez in the UFC. Due to internal issues between the UFC and Diego Sanchez and his coach Joshua Fabia, the fight fell through and Sanchez was cut from the UFC.

Alex Morono stepped up as a late replacement and Cerrone was happy to accept. Cowboy has admitted that he is fighting to remain in the UFC as another loss could bring his illustrious career to an end. We expect Cowboy to win this fight as he has been focused and working hard behind the scenes in preparation for his fight with Sanchez.

Amanda Ribas lost her last fight and will be keen to secure a win over Angela Hill. Hill is the better striker in this match up but Ribas is a beast on the ground.

While Hill has shown in the past that she has good takedown defence, we don’t think her defense will be strong enough to keep Ribas from taking her back and submitting her.
