Jeffery Simmons made an impressive start to life with the Chicago Bears, recording a sack in his debut as Chicago defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night in the NFL.
The defensive lineman, acquired from Tennessee last week in a blockbuster trade involving two first-round picks, helped transform a Bears defense that had been looking for a consistent game-changing presence.
Simmons wasted little time making his presence felt. He recorded a sack on Seattle’s opening drive, added another tackle for loss and finished the night with six tackles, three quarterback pressures and a pass defensed.

Chicago’s defense limited Seattle to 252 total yards and just one successful conversion on 11 third-down attempts.
When I attacked the field, I wasn’t worried about the trade. I wasn’t worried about all the outside noise. All I was worried about is play after play, just give the team everything I got.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson described Simmons’ influence as “profound”, while wide receiver Rome Odunze said the defensive lineman’s energy was noticeable throughout the team.
While Simmons made headlines on defense, quarterback Caleb Williams delivered an efficient performance against one of the NFL’s toughest defensive units.
Williams completed 71% of his passes for 247 yards without throwing an interception. He was sacked just once and helped Chicago build its lead through a series of controlled offensive drives.
HOW did Caleb escape this?! 🤯

Running back D’Andre Swift finished three short touchdown runs, giving the Bears the scoring advantage they needed to maintain control of the game.
Chicago (6-2) opened with a 17-play drive that ended with Williams finding Luther Burden for a one-yard touchdown. The Bears added two field goals before Swift’s first touchdown extended their advantage to 20-9 in the third quarter.
Seattle briefly threatened a comeback in the fourth quarter. After a blocked Jason Myers field goal, a fumble by Bears tight end Colston Loveland gave the Seahawks another opportunity. Sam Darnold connected with Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard touchdown, and Seattle converted the two-point attempt to cut the deficit to 20-17.
However, Chicago responded with another touchdown drive before Darnold threw an interception that set up Swift’s third score, putting the game beyond Seattle’s reach.
Sam Darnold completed 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns, but Seattle’s running game again struggled to provide support. The Seahawks managed just 81 rushing yards despite the recent acquisition of three-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson and the return of injured players.
The defeat was Seattle’s third in four games, leaving the defending champions with little room for further mistakes as the playoff race develops.
It also ended a 30-game streak in which Seattle had avoided losing by more than four points, across the regular season and playoffs.
“We got beat. No other way to sugar-coat it”, head coach Mike Macdonald said.
The Bears will host Tampa Bay next Sunday night, while Seattle returns home to face Arizona.
