The short program will decide which 24 skaters move on to the free skate, where the medals are ultimately decided.
In freestyle skiing, Mac Forehand is in a great position to reach the podium.
He finished first in qualifying for the men’s big air final, a major step forward from his Olympic debut in Beijing, where he placed 11th. This time, he looks more comfortable and confident, and he will enter the final knowing a medal is within reach.
Two of the youngest members of Team USA will also compete on Tuesday.
Sixteen-year-olds Jessica Perlmutter and Lily Dhawornvej are set for the women’s snowboard slopestyle final. They qualified in 10th and 11th place, solid results for athletes competing on the Olympic stage for the first time.
For both teenagers, this is as much about experience as it is about results.
