  • Miscommunication between BCCI and Virat Kohli
  • Kohli sacked as ODI captain even though he wanted to continue
  • Kohli pledges full support to Team India and new captain Rohit Sharma

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly made it appear earlier this week that everything was fine within the Indian camp as they prepare for their test and ODI tour of South Africa.

India’s test team will be led by Virat Kohli while the ODI team will be led by new captain Rohit Sharma.

Ganguly claimed that the BCCI had requested V Kohli to continue as T20 captain when he tended in his resignation. Kohli has claimed otherwise stating that the BCCI was more than happy to see him resign.

Kohli Wanted To Continue As ODI Captain

Kohli claims that even though he relinquished the T20 captaincy, he very much wanted to continue as the ODI captain. He said the BCCI surprised him by telling him 90 minutes before the test team could depart to South Africa that he would no longer be the ODI captain.

Kohli said he accepted the decision from the BCCI as they made it clear to him that they preferred to have the same captain for the shorter formats of the game and one captain for tests. Since Rohit Sharma was appointed as the T20 captain, they gave him the responsibility of being the ODI captain.

The BCCI wasn’t very happy with India’s performance in the T20 and ODI formats as they have not won any major ICC tournaments under Kohli’s leadership. They felt that it was time to give R Sharma a chance and see if he can do better in the shorter format of the game. Kohli said he understood the logic behind BCCI’s decision to replace him as captain.

Kohli Pledges Full Support To New Captain

There appears to be some tension between the BCCI and Kohli due to this miscommunication. Indian cricket fans are wondering if all is well in the Indian camp or if there is also tension between Kohli and Sharma.

Kohli clarified his stance for the media and cricket fans by stating that he has a good relationship with R Sharma. The test captain said that as long as he plays for India he will give his 100 support to the team and R Sharma.
