Ben Stokes is without a doubt that most popular cricketer in England right now after his incredible exploits helped England to win the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Stokes continued to demonstrate why he is considered the best all-rounder in the world as he helped England pull off a remarkable comeback and win an Ashes test single handedly in couple of months ago.
This time around Stokes has made the headlines not for his accomplishments on the field but for allegedly choking his wife in public.
Guido Fawkes published pictures on their website earlier this week which show Ben Stokes having his left hand on his wife’s throat and it looks like he is pushing her back while she tries to fight him off.
The pictures were apparently snapped when the two of them were all dressed up for the Professional Cricketers’ Association Awards which was held last week. Ben Stokes won the Players’ Player of the Year award but the leaked pictures end up making more noise on social media than the award he won.
Stokes got himself into a lot of trouble in 2018 when he engaged in a nightclub brawl that ultimately led to his suspension. Since then he has stayed out of trouble but these latest pictures have once again stirred the pot about his off field behaviour.
Clare Stokes took to social media to deny all allegations and call it nonsense. She posted a picture where she has her hand on Ben Stokes’s face in an attempt to push him. She said that this was how the two of them showed affection to each other and it was the media who was making up stories.
Ben Stokes also released a statement which said that domestic abuse is a very serious issue for both men and women. Stokes said that while he had grown used to the media fabricating stories about him, this recent allegation about domestic abuse has crossed the line. Stokes also said that his wife was a strong and independent woman who had also dismissed the false rumours spread by the media just to hog the headlines.
The English Cricket Board (ECB) also released a statement and said that they have spoken to both Stokes and his wife along with others who were present at the awards ceremony and were satisfied that Stokes was innocent of the allegations made in the media.
