Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman has reunited with his NFL team after being released from a Los Angeles County jail on Monday afternoon. The 32-year-old was initially arrested late last week on weapons charges.

The veteran player was pulled over by L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies at the South Los Angeles Station on Friday at 9:30 p.m. for what officials described as vehicle code violations.

 

According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, a search of Perryman’s vehicle led to the discovery of five firearms, including two “assault-style rifles

He was arrested and booked on weapons violation charges and was cooperative with deputies

However, the exact reason why his vehicle was searched has not been made public by the authorities. Perryman was taken into custody and held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station through the weekend.

No Charges Filed by the DA’s Office

He was expected to appear in court Tuesday morning. However, his hearing was canceled after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, led by Nathan Hochman, decided not to file charges.

Perryman’s agent, Ron Butler, told The Athletic Monday night

We’re grateful the matter has been resolved. At this time, Denzel is focused on getting back to his family and teammates.

By Monday evening, Denzel Perryman had already returned to the Chargers’ facility. His teammate, linebacker Daiyan Henley, posted a video on Instagram showing Perryman back among the team.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that he visited Perryman in jail on Sunday.

He was in good spirits. I love Denzel. He’s always done right. He’s never been in trouble. Got a beautiful family, and we’re just letting the due process play out.

Perryman, a former Pro Bowler in 2021, is entering his 10th NFL season. He began his career with the Chargers, spent time with the Raiders and Texans, and returned to Los Angeles last year.

He started 11 games for the team in 2024 and is expected to be a key figure in their linebacker rotation this US football season.
