Conor McGregor was once the biggest star in mixed-martial-arts and the man everyone wanted to fight.
His absence from the sport for the last three years, controversies outside the Octagon and his recent loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has definitely taken some of the shine from McGregor.
Nurmagomedov has refused to entertain a rematch against McGregor saying that the Irish MMA star needs to go back to the Octagon and win a few fights before thinking of challenging him for the belt again.
Justin Gaethje who won his Main Event fight on September 14 against Cowboy Cerrone silenced talks of a potential fight against McGregor during his post-fight speech saying McGregor is retired.
Conor McGregor loves the limelight and all the attention he can get. The fact that fighters in his weightclass are giving him so little respect is bound to hurt his ego. McGregor took to Twitter to post a picture of himself after Justin Gaethje’s win with no caption.

The interpretation was very clear. He wanted to remind the fans that he is still very much in the picture and tease of a possible fight with Gaethje.
His latest Tweet has nothing but a place and a date “Dublin, December 14”. Once again, it is easy to interpret as McGregor is calling for UFC245 which is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to be moved to Dublin, Ireland.
The Main Event for UFC245 as of now is two division women’s champion Amanda Nunez fighting Germaine de Randamie for the Bantamweight belt. Apart from the Main Event, this is not a strong card for the UFC and McGregor’s addition would make it a big draw.
However, it is highly unlikely that the UFC is going to cancel its Las Vegas event and shift the entire show to Dublin, Ireland with less than 3 months’ notice.
Which leaves fans to once again speculate that McGregor is only trying to stay relevant by teasing a return that will most likely not happen in 2019. The bigger question that MMA fans have on their mind is who will be McGregor’s next opponent. The two most obvious choices as of now is Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje.
The UFC’s last even in Dublin, Ireland was back in 2015 and given the fact that McGregor is close to retirement, he will want to fight in front of his home fans before walking away from the sport!
