UFC 279: Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate DiazThe UFC will show up at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 10 to host UFC 279 which US betting experts love. The premier MMA organization usually headlines its pay per view cards with one or two championship fights but UFC 279 is going to be an exception.

There is no title fight on this pay per view card as the card will be headlined by one of its top superstars Nathan (Nate) Diaz who is fighting out his last fight on his current UFC contract. He will face one of the rising stars in the UFC in Khamzat Chimaev who remains undefeated in the UFC.

The co-main event will see China’s Li Jingliang also known as the “Leech” take on Tony Ferguson who is moving up to welterweight. There are also a number of exciting fights on the early prelims and prelims and we discuss a couple of them towards the end of this article.

Main Event

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nathan Diaz

The UFC knows that Nate Diaz may not fight in the Octagon again and have given him a very tough opponent in his last fight. Many UFC fights and fans have lashed out at the UFC for not giving Nate Diaz the opportunity to fight a veteran on his way out.

UFC President Dana White brushed aside that criticism and said that the UFC always looks to make tough fights and the Chimaev vs. Diaz fight will bring the roof down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Chimaev goes in as a big betting favorite with odds of -1600 while Diaz is a massive underdog with odds of +750. While Diaz is the underdog in this fight, he is the crowd favorite and the full arena will be rooting for Diaz to win his last fight.

Chimaev is known for running through his opponents in the first couple of rounds with his ground and pound style. Diaz will have to weather the first two rounds and ensure that he does not take too much damage. Chimaev showed in his last fight against Gilbert Burns that he can get tired in the final two rounds.

If Diaz can push Chimaev into the final two rounds, he will definitely improve his chances of getting a win. Diaz also has a very underrated ground game and will not be too concerned about being taken down. They say styles make matches and this fight has the makings of being a fight to be remembered!

Current odds: Khamzat Chimaev (-1600) / Nathan Diaz (+750)

Prediction: If we think of what Nate Diaz has done for the UFC and the sport of MMA, we want to bet on Nate to win. However, if we take the emotion out of it, Chimaev should get his hand raised!

Other Exciting Fights

There’s an exciting light heavyweight fight on this card to bet on that is not getting as much attention as it should. Johnny Walker who was once an exciting potential title contender is set to fight Ion Cutelaba. This fight will be a slug fest as both fighters hit hard and both need to get a win to keep their UFC career alive!

Cutelaba is the slight betting favorite in this fight with odds of -185 while Walker is the underdog at +150. This is a hard fight to call as whoever lands first, will win. We are going to put our money on Cutelaba to win by KO.

USA Boxing National Champion Danyelle Wolf will make her UFC debut against Norma Dumont. UFC fans may not know a lot about Danyelle who is a 3 time boxing champ in the welterweight division. She is the betting underdog with odds of +240 while Dumont is the favorite with odds of +300.

Dumont’s best chance is to try and take Danyelle to the mat, test her ground game and see if she can submit her. If the fight stays on the feet, Danyelle should be able to get a win. We are going to put our money on Danyelle to win her first UFC fight!

Some of the other fights that you should watch out for on this card includes Irene Aldana vs. Macy Chiasson at bantamweight. The winner of this fight should be next in light for a title fight.

If you like to see heavyweights throw down, watch out for the exciting Chris Barnett who takes on Jake Collier.

Li Jingliang vs. Tony Ferguson

Li Jingliang is coming off an impressive TKO over Muslim Salikho in July and is looking to add another big name to his resume as he is confident of taking out Tony Ferguson. The Chinese MMA star is the favorite in this fight with betting odds of -275 while Ferguson is the underdog with odds of +212.

Ferguson is moving up a weight class after shifting his camp over to Jackson Wink MMA in New Mexico. Ferguson was the interim champ at light heavyweight but he has had a bad run in the last couple of years at lightweight. Ferguson goes in with a lot of pressure as he was KO’d for the first time in his long UFC career during his last fight at lightweight against Michael Chandler.

Li Jingliang is fighting in his natural weightclass and has the edge in the striking department in our opinion. The two fighters should be equally matched on the ground. The big difference will be the heart and will to win from Tony Ferguson.

Current odds: Li Jingliang (-275) / Tony Ferguson (+212)

Prediction: We think Tony Ferguson is now past his prime and will struggle against Li Jingliang who should win by decision.
