Tyquan Thornton dislocates his left ankle whilst scoring against the Las Vegas Raiders during the NFL Season 2026Summary:

  • Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated left ankle during Kansas City’s 30-27 win over the Raiders.
  • The 26-year-old is out indefinitely pending further evaluations.
  • Thornton had a career-best performance before the injury, catching five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns as the Chiefs moved to 4-0.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton has apparently suffered a dislocated left ankle during Sunday’s 30-27 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, putting a difficult finish on what had been the best game of his NFL career.

He Left the Game on Crutches

A team of doctors put Thornton’s ankle back in place after they took him from Allegiant Stadium on a cart in the fourth quarter. He left the stadium on crutches and is considered out indefinitely while the Chiefs complete further evaluations.

The four-year veteran suffered the injury after making a 55-yard reception. Raiders rookie safety Treydan Stukes tackled him from behind, and Thornton’s leg got caught as the play ended.

Thornton had been one of Kansas City’s biggest offensive threats throughout the game. He finished with five catches for a career-high 111 yards and two touchdowns as the Chiefs improved to 4-0.

Mahomes: “It Was a Big Play for Us”

“It sucks that he hurt his ankle on that play, but it was a big play for us”, quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. Mahomes also reflected on his own experience with injury, saying he understood how difficult it can be for a player when a single play changes his season.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Tyquan Thornton would undergo a full evaluation Monday and is expected to seek a second opinion. Despite the injury, Thornton remained in good spirits after the game and later posted on social media that he would “be back stronger & better.”

The injury creates another concern for Kansas City’s receiving corps. Rashee Rice also left Sunday’s game with a right hamstring injury after catching a seven-yard pass and pulling up while trying to gain additional yards. Reid indicated that Rice was held out as a precaution.

Thornton and Rice had emerged as the Chiefs’ most productive wide receivers through the first four games. Together, they have 24 catches on 31 targets for 409 yards and three touchdowns.

Kansas City had already been exploring options at receiver before Sunday’s injuries, including contact with free agent Tyreek Hill. A team source said after the game that the Chiefs have “remained in contact” with Hill and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Hill spent his first six NFL seasons in Kansas City and recorded 62 total touchdowns during that period while playing alongside Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

The Chiefs believe the 10-year veteran could potentially return in November as he works his way back from a serious knee injury suffered last season.

For now, Kansas City will wait for more information on Thornton and Rice. The Chiefs remain unbeaten so far, but their receiving depth could become an important issue as the season moves forward.
