Jauan Jennings and Tre’von Moehrig get into a postgame altercation during the NFL Season 2025Summary:

  • Jauan Jennings hit Tre’von Moehrig after the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Carolina Panthers.
  • The incident occured shortly after Moehrig was seen punching him during play.
  • Both players say the other crossed the line, and each could face fines or suspensions.

The San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Carolina Panthers on the Monday night Football should have wrapped with the usual handshakes and walk-offs, but things got heated fast.

As the teams were heading off the field after the 49ers’ 20–9 victory, wide receiver Jauan Jennings stepped toward Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig and caught him in the face with a quick open-handed shot.

Barnes and Moss II Prevented a Brawl

It didn’t turn into a brawl thanks to Panthers linebacker Krys Barnes and 49ers staffer Austin Moss II, who got between them right away.

The tension had been brewing. Late in the fourth quarter, cameras caught Moehrig punching Jennings in the groin during a play. Jennings didn’t retaliate in the moment. Instead, he pleaded with the officials to throw a flag, which never came. After the game, he didn’t hide how he felt.

I was just responding to some childish behavior“, Jennings said. Kyle Shanahan had his player’s back, calling Moehrig’s swing a “cheap shot” and saying he was proud Jennings kept himself together long enough to get to the sideline without escalating things further.

Jennings: “That Was Just Out of Nowhere”

Jennings said the punch surprised him, though he added that it might have had something to do with his physical style.

That was just out of nowhere. I think it’s probably just like I was saying, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I’m physically stronger than a lot of DBs out there and a lot of things happen in between the whistles. With me at least.

Carolina clearly didn’t appreciate that physicality. Jennings has a reputation for blocking aggressively, and he was tossed from last season’s finale for two unnecessary roughness penalties.

Moehrig didn’t deny he was frustrated, saying Jennings was pushing him in the back and “talking crazy” throughout the game.

He was just doing some extra stuff after the play. I’ll take that one. It wasn’t just frustration. It was isolated.

When asked whether he felt his response was justified, he answered, “It is what it is“.

Panthers cornerback Mike Jackson didn’t hold back either. “I ain’t got nothing good to say about [No.] 15“, he said.

Carolina coach Dave Canales wasn’t ready to weigh in before watching the footage.

I’ll get to the bottom of that. I want to see exactly what happened. I haven’t had a chance to talk to Tre about that yet. That’ll be a conversation.

Moehrig admitted he’ll “most likely” get fined. A suspension is also possible, especially since the league already handed Detroit’s Brian Branch a one-game ban earlier this season for striking JuJu Smith-Schuster after a game.

When the league upheld that suspension, it called Branch’s act “entirely unwarranted” and a clear violation of expected sportsmanship, language that won’t help Moehrig if the NFL decides to act.
