UFC on ESPN 17: Santos vs. Teixeira Betting Preview

The upcoming UFC Fight Night was expected to get a lot of attention as the winner of the Main Event was expected to get a title shot at UFC lightheavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz. The Main Event is being headlined by Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira but the winner will no longer be guaranteed a title shot due to a change of plan.

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Jan Blachowicz’s first title defense will be against UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, who retained his title at UFC 253.

Thiago Santos goes in as the betting favorite with odds of -250 against underdog Teixeira who has odds of +195. Thiago Santos has been out of the Octagon for over a year due to injury sustained in his last fight which was against former champ Jon Jones.

Santos should be able to win if he keeps the fight on the feet for all 5 rounds. However, Glover Teixeira is a veteran who will look to take Santos down and submit him. If Santos wins it will likely be by KO or TKO. However, if Glover can keep him at bay, he has a chance of winning by decision or taking him down and submitting him. We would bet on Glover Teixeira for this one.

The co-main event is a heavyweight clash between former champ Andrei Arlovski and hard hitting Aussie Tanner Bosser. The bookmakers have Bosser as the favorite at -285 and Arlovski at +225. We would pick Arlovski because he has the experience and fight IQ to outsmart Boser and win by decision.

This fight will open the Main Card in a strawweight bout. The bookmakers have chosen Yan as the favorite even though she is ranked 8th in the strawweight division and Gadelha is ranked 4. Yan has betting odds of -135 while Gadelha has odds of +105.

Some of the other interesting fights on this card include Ian Heinisch vs. Brendan Allen both at -115 for middleweight, Giga Chikadze vs. Jamey Simmons at -500 & +350 for featherweight and a heavyweight fight between Alexandr Romanov vs. Marcos Rogério de Lima at -350 & +265 respectively.
