Tom Brady silenced all rumours of him going to retire soon after he announced that he has signed a 2 year contract extension with the New England Patriots. The 42 year old is reportedly being paid $70 million for his two year contract extension. This will also most likely mean that when Tom Brady does retire, he will do so wearing the Patriots jersey.

Tom Brady will go down as one of the best players in NFL history and one of the four players in NFL history to have won 6 NFL titles. His bond with the Patriots has come in to question over the last couple of seasons as rumours surfaced that he could no longer see eye to eye with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

However, Brady silenced those rumours by resigning with the Patriots and releasing a statement which should put all rumours to rest.

In a statement, Brady said

I appreciate this team and the opportunity it gave me in 2000. I play for a great coach in Coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and I have a great working relationship. I love Mr. Robert Kraft and his family. We’ve had just incredible success. Hopefully we can keep it going.

$70 Million Contract Extension

The new contract will ensure Brady gets an $8 million increase in his salary package for 2019. He will be paid a total of $23 million this year, making him the 6th highest paid quarter back in the league, tied with Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints. The deal will also give the Patriots an additional $5.5 million in their salary cap for 2019.

Brady is set to receive a pay check of $30 million in 2020 and it will go even higher in 2021 when he will take home $32 million. Given the fact that Brady will be 44 in 2021, it could very well be the last season in his illustrious career with the NFL.

Had Brady not signed a contract extension with the Patriots, he would have become a free agent at the end of the 2019 season. So far no quarter back has started out in all 16 regular season games but Brady is not just any quarterback and the new contract extension shows the belief the Patriots still have in their star player.
