united states open tennis championshipsIt is the dream of every professional tennis player to win one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Winning a Grand Slam not only puts the player in the record books and moves them up in ATP and WTA rankings but also gives them a nice chunk of prize money.

The U.S. Open has always been of the highest paying Grand Slam tournaments in the world and the 2018 edition is set to give away more prize money than ever before.

An Increase Of $100,000 In 2018

The 2018 U.S Open will once again take place in Flushing Meadows and will run from 27 August to 09 September. The total prize money that will be distributed throughout all divisions during the 2 week long tournament is estimated to be around $53 million. This is an increase of 5 percent in total prize money when compared to 2017. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) also confirmed that it was the first grand slam to start offering equal prize money to men and women since 1973.

The prize money that tennis players have made in the last decade has increased significantly and the U.S Open is a good example at that. The U.S Open has seen an increase of 53 percent in prize money since 2013.

The winners in the men’s singles and women’s singles are set to receive an extra $100,000 for their efforts when compared to 2017. The players who win the men’s singles and women’s singles at the U.S Open are set to receive $3.8 million each while the runners up in each division will get $1.85 million. The winners of the men’s doubles and women’s doubles will receive $700,000 which they will have to split between themselves.

Serena Williams And Andy Murray Hoping To Win Big

Serena Williams had a great run at Wimbledon and finished as the runner-up. She was disappointed at not winning but also thrilled with her return and her overall performance. Williams has had great success at the U.S Open in the past and will be keen on winning her 24th Grand Slam and setting a new record.

Brit Andy Murray has taken a forced break from tennis due to an injury and was looking to return at Wimbledon but decided against it due the risk posed of playing on grass courts. He is looking to make his return to the hard courts and is confident of playing at the 2018 US Open.
