Daryl MoreyThe NBA season has come to an end and it is now time for NBA franchises and the players to determine their plans for the upcoming season. The two main headlines on the NBA circuit this week is the resignation of Rockets GM Daryl Morey and Anthony Davis looking to opt out of his contract with the Lakers.

Daryl Morey has been with the Houston Rockets for 13 years and has done a great job as the general manager for the franchise. Morey decided to resign after the Rockets made it to the playoffs and lost. The Rockets are expected to replace Morey with Rafael Stone who serves as the VP of operations.

Morey found himself in the center of a massive controversy in October 2019 when he took to Twitter to show his support for the protests in Hong Kong. That one tweet from Morey caused a massive backlash as China took offense to the Tweet and called on Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta to fire Morey.

Fertitta stood by Morey and this further frustrated China who threatened the NBA by stopping all NBA broadcasts and cancelling a number of lucrative sponsorship deals. The NBA and the Rockets ended up losing a significant amount of revenue but through it all Fertitta gave Morey his full support.

Morey had a good track record with the Rockets leading them to 10 playoffs in the last 13 years. He is expected to remain with the Rockets in an advisory role until a new head coach is finalized.

In Other News: Anthony Davis Prefers New Contract Over Resigning

Anthony Davis has decided to opt out of his contact and pursue a new one with the Lakers. Davis won his first NBA Championship with the Lakers this season and wants to continue his partnership with Lebron James and look to win back-to-back championships in the coming season.

Davis has decided to drop out of his $28.7 million contract with the Lakers and work out a new deal. Anthony Davis and his agent Rich Paul are expected to have a meeting with Lakers management in the coming days to finalize a new deal. The Lakers will ideally like to sign Davis to a 4 or 5 year contract but it is likely that Davis will only push for a 2 year contract and then see if he can renegotiate his contract once again.
