If you are a UFC fan that closely follows the post, you are aware of these two things. The general consensus is that former Fox and ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani is by far the most popular MMA journalist in the sport. You will also be aware that UFC President Dana White genuinely dislikes Helwani and banned him from attending or covering UFC events dating back to UFC 200.
Brit Paddy Pimblett is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC with a massive fan following. Paddy “The Baddy” is fighting Jared Gordon on Dec 10 in Las Vegas and is getting a lot of media attention in the lead-up. He invited UFC President Dana White to be on his podcast this week and one of the highlights of the podcast was the two of them ganging up and bashing Ariel Helwani.
Both White and Paddy unleashed a tirade of verbal abuse against Helwani. Paddy also went on to accuse Helwani of being fired from all his jobs, profiting of fighter interviews by using click bait YouTube videos, getting fighters to do free interviews and profiting of them, not being a true MMA journalist but a biased content creator.
White was only too happy to see Paddy cut loose on Helwani and he claimed it was one of the best podcasts he has done in recent times!
It did not take long for Ariel Helwani to respond via his ‘The MMA Hour’ show on YouTube. Helwani took his time to address all of the accusations that Paddy made against him and used facts to expose the lies and vehement attack that was made against him.
Helwani said he wasn’t bothered about the verbal abuse that White and Paddy sent his way but he was concerned with the web of lies Paddy put out. Helwani went through his job history and proved that he wasn’t fired from any job and showcased a tweet from ESPN offering him a contract extension which he turned down.
Helwani also confirmed that he is on a fixed contract for doing The MMA Hour and does not get any revenue from YouTube irrespective of whether the video does well or not. He also said he was labelled biased because he was willing to stand up and call out the UFC on things that other MMA journalists would turn a blind eye to as they did not want to upset White!
